About Light Up uMngeni
After a successful 2021 “Light The Falls” event uMngeni Tourism presents “Light Up uMngeni” at our very own iconic tourist destination, The Nelson Mandela Capture Site.
With it being the 60th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s capture, we feel that coming together as a community to showcase local talents, as well as commemorate our municipal heroes and the progress that we as a community have risen to, is the perfect ending to our 2022 year.
Join us this year for an experience that brings variety and wonder while you work your way through our Market Map you will be able to experience everything from great music to good food. Make memories with your friends and family, while enjoying the themed light installations and various activities.

UP UMNGENI FESTIVE FAIR
THE CAPTURE
Not only is our uMngeni district rich with culture, but we are also rich with history. The new “Light Up uMngeni” festive fair location is the iconic Nelson Mandela Capture Site. Take a walk down to the spectacular Nelson Mandela sculpture or view our country’s history while visiting the museum. This year is the 60th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s capture and it seems only fitting that we get to come together united and full of spirit, to stand together in this space.
FESTIVE LIGHTS
We would not be able to “Light Up uMngeni” without numerous beautiful lights and festive decorations. With the festive lights of 2021’s event being a highlight, we return bigger and better with over 30Km of lights and plans for exciting installations to wow the crowds and bring festive cheer.
VENDORS
Come and explore an extraordinary variety of artisan arts & crafts brought to you over the festive fair weekend. We strive to support local, handcrafted, and quality products to bring you an exciting shopping experience that you can enjoy with your friends and family. There will be something for everyone!

We are here for a good time. We are here for the experiences created. We are here for the memories made. Come and enjoy a variety of Live music bought to you by local talents. Listen, enjoy, and discover. Take a break while you sit with your food & drink or be in the front row showing us your moves, we cannot wait to witness the good times and good vibes.
KIDS ENTERTAINMENT
The festive fair is family orientated, we encourage you to join in the fun with your children. Enjoy our Market Map with your little ones and make sure you discover every aspect of the festive fair, visit our themed light installations and take part in awesome activities, there is fun to be had by everyone and plenty of exciting activities lined up over the 2 day fair.
FOOD & DRINKS
We aim to bring a wide spread of cuisine to tantalise your tastebuds, artisan bakers, unique local foods, food producers, and some of your favourite midlands traders. This year’s festive fair features a designated area for a beer garden, featuring local craft beverages, creating a great area for our upbeat festival goers.
